Not the classiest drink in the world, but certainly a popular one. This drink was invented during American prohibition (1919-1933) and would certainly not have been the recipe which we use today. The general idea of the drink was to use a good measure of whatever alcohol was to hand, add some lime and sugar then top it up with cola. In theory a Long Island could be made using any spirit, but these days we choose to use all of the major ones together – for that authentic bootleg flavour!
Glass: Highball/Sling
Garnish: Lemon Wheel
Ingredients:
- 12.5ml Vodka
- 12.5ml Gin
- 12.5ml Tequila
- 12.5ml Golden Rum
- 12.5ml Cointreau
- 25ml lime juice
- 12.5ml gomme
- Cola to top up
Method: There is absolutely no way that the Speakeasy’s would have shaken this one so build it in the glass and give it a good stir, remember to add the cola last. Oh and if you use diet coke you can make it float by pouring slowly.
