Cuba Libre
I seem to remember that this drink literally means ‘Free Cuba’ or ‘Liberated Cuba’ – something to do with them gaining their Independence at the turn of the last century.
Perhaps a surprise entry, but this drink is so understated. For starters, coke is an awesome ingredient, I don’t care what anyone says. Secondly, if you cpouple coke with a great rum you’re on to a winner. There is some debate over the creation of this drink, Cubans stating it was pre-1900, but everyone else stating that coke wasn’t available in Cuba until 1901.
Glass: Hi-ball
Garnish: Lime wedge
- 50ml Pampero Especial
- 15ml Fresh lime juice
- top up with coke
Build in the glass and stir well. The lime balances beautifully with the caramel of the rum and the warm spicy sweetness of cola.
