Cocktail Section Revamp

Posted on Sunday, October 26th, 2008 | No Comments

I’ve been working hard to sort out the much neglected Cocktail Section of the website. After taking a long hard look at it and realising that it was really only some recipes pasted into a long list, the OCD took over.
So, what we now have is a neat title page listing cocktails by individual spirits. [...]

Rum Timeline

There doesn’t appear to be a rum timeline anywhere on the net, or at least not a comprehensive one. All of this information has been colated from other websites and a couple of books, i’ve just put it in order with dates.

It would be pretty cool if this resource could grow, so if you have any interesting and relevant dates or facts in rums history drop a comment and i’ll include it. [...]

Low Wines2
Finally I’ve got a whisky distillery visit under my belt! I took a trip up to Edinburgh on Wednesday and was lucky enough to get a very comprehensive tour of a benchmark distillery at Glenkinchie.

Glencinchie is one of only three remaining Lowland malt distilleries, it was established in 1825 and is situated about 20-30 minutes form Edinburgh. Rediscovering my love for Spirits

Posted on Saturday, June 14th, 2008 | No Comments

Spirits cabinet I’m thrilled to say that i’m getting rather engrossed in spirits once again. Lots of tasting and training sessions on all sorts of liquor over the last few weeks have well and truly fortified my pasion for alcohol. I’ve met some great people, Ian Williams (JW distiller), Colin Dunn (Whisky writer and all round expert) and Roger Mallindine, one of only 11 Masters of Whisky in the world(!!), a man that has been a brand ambassador for around 40 years i’m told. [...]

Johnnie Blue
A week in to the new job and already i’ve been fortunate enough to spend the day in Bristol (…keep reading, it gets better) at a Johnnie Walker Blue Label tasting with Ian Williams the master distiller.

If you want to know a bit more about Johnnie Walker feel free to contact me, but the general gist is this: John Walker started blending whisky back in 1820 in his grocers shop in Kilmarnock [...]

Americano or Filter?

Filter
Make no mistake, i’m an espresso boy. My career in coffee has developed from a love of espresso and the milky drinks that go with it, for me filter has until now been a cheap and easy way to stew coffee to the brink of glorious insipid death. It’s only in the last year that I have really come to appreciate the potential genius of good filter coffee, as well as other brewing methods and i’m pretty excited about it…
