flickr Film Roll:

I love it when something comes along that combines two of your passions seamlessly. Simon Difford is a long running drinks hero of mine, as if he hadn’t already done enough, he’s now gone and transferred his latest ‘Cocktails Made Easy’ publication into an iPhone app!

The book basically revolves around the idea that 14 bottles and a few bits of fruit can go on to create a vast array of cocktails (500 to be exact). The iPhone/iPod Touch app does exactly the same thing…

… but, with the advantage of telling the application exactly what bottles you do or don’t have.

My bar 2

Yes that’s right, a digital spirits shelf in your pocket. This means that you are only presented with a list of drinks that you are actually capable of making.

List

There’s more… The list of drinks that you choose from can be organised alphabetically or by Simon’s rating. You can also rate the drinks yourself, write notes, read about the history, search, collate a shopping list of ingredients, email the drink and see a full screen image of your selected drink in full colour glory. If you’re not feeling very fussy, you can just shake the iPhone and a random drink will be presented to you.

I am so pathetically grateful for this app that I almost want to cancel my own cocktail section, tear it up into little pieces and start bawling my eyes out in a fit of half despair and half euphoria!

You can purchase the app for £1.79 (!!) from the Apple App Store and to be honest, you’d be a fool not to.
