When in Italy recently I was lucky enough to sample the delights of Chino, a can of deliciously bitter coke alternative. Marketed as a soft drink for adults this stuff is absolutely brilliant and if I get a chance i’m going to try and make my own.

The taste is so bitter and yet sooo good! It reminded me straight away of Campari with that bitter ‘i’ve just eaten an orange without peeling it’ feeling. Flavours of cloves, cinnamon, quinine and a touch of dry fruit, your mouth is not left with that sugary feeling, but it does feel like your tongue is salivating itself to death. The can even comes with a foil lid so you know you’re not kissing someones dirty fingerprints.

Anyone know if you can get this stuff in the UK?

Chinotto is wonderful stuff made by the San Pellegrino company. I’ve bought it in many places in the UK. It’s certainly widely available in Italian delicatessens in Edinburgh owing to the sizeable Italian community I guess.

Ive also had it from a few pizza delivery companys in London.

You can buy it online here though I’m sure you found that anyway.
