Starbucks buys Clover (…all of them)
That’s not ‘Starbucks have purchased a Clover‘, no no no, they’ve just jumped straight in there and bought Clovers entire parent company, The Coffee Equipment Company.
For anyone unfamiliar with Clover, it is a coffee brewing system that has been hailed as the next big thing in brewed coffee due to its stability and customisable temperature, water and brew settings. Yes, that’s right, Starbucks now own it.
*$ only mention implementing Clover in the US at present, but one would assume the UK will get the same treatment eventually. Additonally they will be introducing a new blend to go with the Clover system called Pike Place Roast, you can read more about this and the rest of the (deep breath) ‘Strategic Initiatives To Transform and Innovate the Customer Experience’ here, which should be simply titled ‘Ideas to make us better’.
So is this good or bad? Well potentially good. It means that any city dweller will only ever be a few footsteps away from a *potentialy* brilliant cup of coffee. Potentially, only because the final cup will still rely to a certain extent on the skill of the barista, quality of coffee and the setting up of the machine.
Bad? Well the only bad thing that I can think of is that the rest of us wont get a look in on Clover any more, but at £6k it was a bit out of my price range in the first place!

interesting to see what they will do with it as i cant imagine many of their shops using it?
