I’ve had some time to reflect on the competition and thought i’d do a *little post containing some of my thoughts and feelings. *big

I’d like to start by thanking all of the people involved in the competition this year, on the whole I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I would encourage any barista to have a go at it next year…

Latte Smackdown!

Posted on Monday, February 25th, 2008 | No Comments

LatteHere are a few videos taken at the recent Latte art smackdown hosted by Square Mile Coffee Roasters. Unfortunately a lot of the ones I thought were recording didn’t seem to come out… We’ll just have to do another one some time, maybe a Cornish smackdown is in order…?

Intelligentsia ‘Black Cat’ is very nice indeed

Thanks to Square Mile Coffee for letting me take this home, it is lovely. I found extraction at about 90 degrees works best. Stone fruit up front but the finish is incredible, chocolate but not bitter and dark, more milky, a bit like advent calendar chocolate - in a good way! Works very well with milk and actually tastes a bit like hot chocolate on the linger. Nice big bag

ChampThe UK Barista championship 2008 is over and I’m very proud to say that my good friend Hugo Hercod beat of 23 others (including me) to win it. Hugo will go on to represent UK on Copenhagen this summer.

ShinyI am exhausted already having spent hours tonight checking, double checking, packing, checking again. Laura and I are heading up to London tomorrow afternoon for the finals and I simply cannot believe the amount of stuff I have got to take.

With competition looming, Hugo and I took a (very) long trip up to Peterborough yesterday. You guessed it (it was the title right?), we weren’t in Peterborough for the sight seeing, we were there because it is the home of Masteroast.
